Your five steps to getting started

Try your first lessons
Begin with the free five-lesson mini-course. It introduces the violin, bow hold and first notes.
Pause and repeat the demonstrations as often as you need to. Focus on getting comfortable rather than playing quickly.

Get your instrument ready
Start with a violin, bow, rosin and a suitable shoulder rest. Ask a teacher or violin shop to help you choose the right size and setup.
Already own a violin? Have its strings, bridge and bow checked when needed. Ask Rimma for help choosing your starting setup.
Use the violin tuner alongside the beginner tuning guide. Turn pegs carefully and ask for help if you are unsure.

Build a short practice routine
Start with around 15 minutes, adjusted to your schedule. Spend a few minutes checking your setup and posture, then work on one technique and apply it to an exercise or tune.
Finish by noting one thing to work on next time. Move on when the task feels comfortable, rather than rushing through videos.

Follow a course in order
Explore the beginner, improver and intermediate courses. Begin at your current level and build on each lesson.
Use the free lesson collection for extra demonstrations. The website guide helps you find and use your lessons.

Get feedback on your playing
A short recording can help you notice your progress and explain where you feel stuck. ViolinPanda members can send practice videos to Rimma for personal feedback.
Choose one exercise and say what you would like help with, such as bow hold, rhythm or finding a note.
